Research Contribution Request: ROI on Parks & Green Space

At Keep Britain Tidy they are currently working on an important project for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), exploring the ROI on parks and green spaces. They have been commissioned to provide a report outlining the return on each £1 invested in parks and green spaces. The project will feed into parks funding decisions and highlight areas where further research is needed within the field.

The research aims to understand the ROI in parks and green spaces in areas including;

  • Health and wellbeing (e.g., cost reduction to NHS)
  • Climate change mitigation/environmental impact (e.g., reducing flood risk)
  • Local economies (e.g., improving house prices, encouraging tourism, attracting business)

As such, they are gathering as much knowledge and expertise as possible and would greatly appreciate your input. Whilst MHCLG are primarily interested in information pertaining to the UK, we feel that any information they can gather will help provide important insights for the report. As such, if you have insights on park and green space ROI as it relates to other countries, then please feel free to include those. They will acknowledge and reference your contributions in their final report to MHCLG.

If you are aware of any studies, reports or research that align with their focus, they kindly invite you to share these with them using this link;  Parks ROI. This file is open access to all of those with whom they have shared it, so if you see any interesting documents that you wish to download for your own interest, then please do so. They hope this will be useful to everyone involved and act as a knowledge exchange between many parks and green space experts.

In the case that you have links (i.e., to a web page), please use this form; https://forms.office.com/e/ZwZZ4eGgHQ and populate under the appropriate headings.

Please submit any information you have before 14th October 2024.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help them with this important project which they hope will lead to further investments in our parks and green spaces. If you have any questions about the project or the OneDrive folder or our online form, then please email melissa.james@keepbritaintidy.org.
